The global memory shortage crisis that has affected industries worldwide for several months continues with no clear signs of easing. In response to the ongoing challenge, semiconductor giants Nvidia and SK Hynix are preparing strategic measures aimed at addressing the issue.
The U.S.-based and South Korea-based chipmakers are reportedly set to collaborate as part of their efforts to navigate the prolonged supply constraints. Both companies are expected to formally announce their partnership today.
A spokesperson for SK Hynix confirmed the report and stated that SK Hynix Chairman Chey Tae-won and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang will provide further details regarding the planned cooperation.
Separately, Huang also acknowledged that a joint announcement with SK Hynix is forthcoming. However, he refrained from disclosing specific details about the contents of the announcement.
“We operate across a wide range of industries, from AI supercomputers and CPUs to next-generation personal computers and robotics. We are here to discuss future plans, and there may be several announcements coming tomorrow,” Huang said, as quoted by Reuters on Monday (June 8, 2026).
During the same occasion, Huang also commented on the global memory shortage that continues to affect the technology sector. He noted that he does not yet see an end to the ongoing crisis.
According to Huang, the supply shortage has spread throughout the entire semiconductor supply chain and could persist for several more years.
“The entire industry supply chain—from wafers and packaging to silicon photonics—is experiencing supply constraints driven by exceptionally strong demand. This situation is likely to continue for the next several years,” he stated.
During his visit to South Korea, Huang met with Chey Tae-won and several other SK Hynix executives, including CEO Kwak Noh-jung. The meeting took place at Kkanbu Chicken, a restaurant in Seoul, where they enjoyed fried chicken and beer, a popular Korean combination commonly referred to as “chimaek.”
