New Way to Make Money on YouTube – Anyone Can Start Today!

YouTube has updated its monetization policy, introducing changes to how creators earn revenue from their content. Under the latest revision, videos that include profanity within the first seven seconds may now still be fully monetized.

This marks a departure from the previous guideline, where such language only qualified a video for limited ad revenue.

Conor Kavanagh, YouTube's Head of Monetization Policy, explained that the earlier restrictions were modeled after broadcasting standards, as advertisers preferred their ads not to appear alongside content with profanity, particularly at the start of a video.

However, that stance has now shifted, as advertisers are increasingly able to target content based on the level of language used.

"Advertisers now have the ability to choose content based on their tolerance for different levels of profanity," Kavanagh said, as reported by The Verge on Thursday (July 31, 2025).

In an explanatory video, he clarified that the type of profanity being discussed refers to moderate-level swearing.

Still, not all uses of profanity will automatically qualify for full monetization. YouTube will continue to enforce restrictions if the language used falls under the mid-level profanity category and appears in the video title or thumbnail.

As for strong or severe profanity, Kavanagh stated that such language violates advertiser-friendly content guidelines and will remain ineligible for full monetization.

"You still need to be cautious when choosing content that includes inappropriate or explicit language," he emphasized.

For context, YouTube has revised its ad revenue policies several times. Back in November 2022, videos that contained profanity between the 8th and 15th second were not eligible for monetization.

Then in March 2023, YouTube modified its stance and allowed videos with swearing during the 8–15 second window to still earn ad revenue.
