Foreign Investors Remain Selective as Indonesian Stocks End the Week Higher

Indonesia's benchmark stock index finished last week with modest gains, reflecting resilient market sentiment despite continued foreign selling pressure. The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) closed at 5,924.36 on Friday, advancing 0.20% for the day and posting a 0.83% weekly increase after rising in four of the five trading sessions.

Overall Foreign Flow Stayed Negative

Although market performance improved, overseas investors remained net sellers during the week.

Between July 6 and July 10, foreign investors recorded approximately Rp18.46 trillion in stock purchases and Rp20.19 trillion in sales, resulting in a net foreign outflow of around Rp1.73 trillion across the Indonesian market.

Ten Stocks That Attracted Foreign Buying

Despite the overall outflow, several companies continued to receive strong buying interest from international investors.

The leading foreign net-buy stocks during the week were:

  • BBCA – Rp609.0 billion

  • MBMA – Rp244.4 billion

  • BRPT – Rp74.1 billion

  • ADRO – Rp57.0 billion

  • ELSA – Rp41.2 billion

  • GOTO – Rp36.4 billion

  • INDF – Rp31.9 billion

  • BBTN – Rp29.9 billion

  • BUVA – Rp27.2 billion

  • TINS – Rp24.7 billion

Banking and Resources Remain Attractive

Bank Central Asia (BBCA) dominated foreign accumulation during the week, highlighting continued confidence in Indonesia's largest banking stocks.

Meanwhile, purchases of MBMA, ADRO, ELSA, and TINS suggest sustained interest in mining, energy, and commodity-related companies. The inclusion of GOTO, BRPT, and INDF also indicates that global investors continue to selectively build positions in companies viewed as having solid long-term growth prospects.

Selective Positioning Instead of Broad Selling

Market participants generally monitor foreign capital flows as an indicator of international confidence in Indonesia's financial markets. While aggregate foreign trading remained negative last week, concentrated buying in several blue-chip and resource-related stocks suggests that overseas investors are reallocating portfolios rather than exiting the market entirely.
