The Ministry of Finance has allocated IDR 277 billion from the 2025 State Budget (APBN) to support Indonesia’s national football team (Timnas) in their quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Of that amount, 73% is funded by state tax revenues.
This budget is designated for several key programs, including the preparation of the Indonesian national team for the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, training programs across various age levels, and operational support for football association initiatives.
“This step reflects the government’s support for the advancement of Indonesian football, with the ultimate goal of seeing the Garuda squad compete on the World Cup stage in 2026,” stated a post on the official Instagram account of the Directorate General of Taxes at the Ministry of Finance, quoted on Monday (June 9, 2025).
Previously, the Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), Erick Thohir, mentioned that the government has been allocating approximately IDR 200 billion annually to support the national team. He noted that this represents the largest amount of funding in recent years.
In addition to financial backing, the players and coaches of the national team were honored with a personal invitation from President Prabowo to his residence in Kertanegara, following their victory over China in the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers for the Asian zone.
With the additional three points, Indonesia now holds a total of 12 points, temporarily placing them in fourth position in Group C standings.
“I believe the coach and players felt deeply appreciated by the President [Prabowo], especially since the gathering took place at his private residence rather than the Presidential Palace. It created a warm, family-like atmosphere,” Erick said to reporters in Kertanegara, South Jakarta, on Friday (June 6, 2025).
On another note, Erick revealed that PSSI is still pursuing a bid for Indonesia to become the host nation for the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in the Asian zone.
He acknowledged that Middle Eastern countries currently dominate the hosting opportunities for upcoming qualification rounds.
“We’ve also sought permission, and I reported to the President [Prabowo], with the Minister of State Secretariat and Cabinet Secretary present, that we intend to submit a hosting bid—who knows, we might still have a chance,” Erick stated.
The fourth round of the 2026 Asian Qualifiers is planned to be held in a single host country. Several Middle Eastern nations, including Qatar and Saudi Arabia, have reportedly expressed interest in hosting the round.
“Even though we know that Middle Eastern countries have strong dominance as hosts, we’re going to give it a try. This is a chance,” Erick added.
