DIGIVESTASI - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (BNI) officially opened a representative office in Sydney, Australia, on Thursday (5/9/2024), becoming the first Indonesian bank to have an office in Australia. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pahala Mansury stated that the presence of BNI's representative office in Sydney will help strengthen trade relations between Indonesia and Australia. “Moreover, currently Indonesia and Australia are comprehensive strategic partners, especially in the fields of trade and investment in strategic sectors,” said Pahala in his official statement, Thursday (5/9/2024).

Pahala, who also serves as Deputy President Commissioner of BNI, is optimistic that BNI's presence in Sydney will strengthen economic relations between the two countries. He also thanked OJK and the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Investment in strengthening this relationship, especially in the financial sector.

Meanwhile, BNI's President Director, Royke Tumilaar, stated that BNI's internationalization steps aim to expand global banking services and strengthen its presence in international markets. BNI has opened offices in various strategic countries and will continue to expand to potential countries that are Indonesia's trading partners.

“Today is a historic moment for BNI, because with the opening of the Representative Office in Sydney, we are further strengthening our international presence,” Royke said at the inauguration of the office. He explained that Sydney was chosen because it is one of the major financial centers in the Asia-Pacific region, offers access to global markets, and is a business center with great potential for collaboration. In addition, Sydney has a strong Indonesian diaspora community, so BNI can better serve their banking needs.

Royke also emphasized that Australia offers opportunities for access to new markets that BNI has not yet maximized. The presence of an office in Sydney is expected to be a gateway to strengthen business and economic cooperation between Indonesia and Australia, as well as countries in Asia-Pacific.

As a state-owned bank, BNI is committed to not only providing the best banking services but also facilitating trade and investment relations between Indonesia and global partners. The representative office in Sydney, in addition to providing economic and business research services, will also provide business referrals to other overseas offices. BNI currently has overseas offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Seoul, London, Amsterdam and New York, all designed to support corporate and retail customers, international trade and access to global financial markets.
