The death toll from the apartment fire in Hong Kong has risen again, with a total of 146 people now confirmed dead.
According to The Straits Times on Monday (December 1, 2025), identification teams discovered several more bodies after expanding their search to three additional high-rise buildings in Wang Fuk Court, the site of the world’s deadliest residential building fire since 1980.

“As of 4 p.m. (0800 GMT), the latest number of fatalities stands at 146. We cannot rule out the possibility of more victims,” said Chief Inspector Tsang Shuk-yin.

More than 1,000 people from various parts of China flocked to the housing complex in Hong Kong’s northern Tai Po district on November 30 to pay their respects, forming long queues.

Authorities have established an interdepartmental investigative task force to determine the cause of the fire.

Hong Kong’s anti-corruption watchdog has detained 11 individuals in connection with the incident, three of whom were also arrested by police on suspicion of murder.

The Hong Kong Buildings Department has ordered a temporary suspension of work on 30 private construction projects across the city.
