DIGIVESTASI - The government of Indonesia is currently evaluating the prices of fuel, specifically non-subsidized fuel such as Pertamax and other types. This evaluation follows the government's decision to hold off on adjusting the economic prices of non-subsidized fuel until June 2024. This was conveyed by President Joko Widodo and PT Pertamina (Persero) through Pertamina Patra Niaga.
"Everything is considered based on the country's fiscal capability. Whether it is able or not, how strong the price is, and how high the oil prices are. Everything will be calculated and considered carefully," said President Jokowi at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (May 30, 2024).
Jokowi emphasized that fuel prices affect the livelihood of many people, and changes in fuel prices will impact various domestic prices.
Previously, the government has been holding off on energy price adjustments, including fuel, until June, despite global crude oil prices being under pressure due to increased tensions in the Middle East.
"So far, there has been no change (in energy subsidy evaluation for June)," said Sri Mulyani to reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex on Wednesday (May 28, 2024).
President Director of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Riva Siahaan, stated that they cannot yet confirm any changes in fuel prices for June 2024. Currently, they are still monitoring the market prices.
"We are still monitoring the market prices because this is not yet final," said Riva at an SPBE (bulk LPG filling station) in Koja, North Jakarta, on Wednesday (May 29, 2024).
Riva emphasized that Pertamina will continue to support government programs in determining the fuel prices sold by the company. He also mentioned that Pertamina would set energy prices according to the public's affordability. "So we do not plan to take actions outside the government's decisions," he asserted.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Arifin Tasrif, stated that fuel prices, both subsidized and non-subsidized, will be held until June 2024.
"Approximately (held) until June. We will see because crude oil prices are still around US$ 83 per barrel," said Arifin at the ESDM Ministry office on Friday (March 8, 2024).
Arifin explained that even though non-subsidized fuel prices are not rising, calculations have been made to ensure that PT Pertamina (Persero) is not disadvantaged.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that during the plenary cabinet meeting, it was decided that there would be no increase in electricity and fuel tariffs until June. "Both subsidized and non-subsidized," said Airlangga at his office in Jakarta recently.
