LRT Jabodebek, initially hoped to be an innovative solution to alleviate traffic congestion, is currently facing a series of problems.
From technical issues such as wheel wear to station roofs leaking due to heavy rain, Okezone Saturday (11/11/2023) summarized the latest facts explaining the situation faced by LRT Jabodebek:
Reduced Number of Trainsets
The number of operating trainsets has significantly decreased, with only nine out of the total 31 supposed to be in operation. This has led to a one-hour train arrival interval, increasing frustration and discomfort for LRT Jabodebek service users.
LRT Jabodebek Public Relations Manager, Kuswardoyo, emphasized that wheel wear on 18 trainsets is the main cause of this problem. "The condition of the wheels on 18 trainsets has worn out, necessitating wheel disbandment maintenance. So far, we can only operate nine trainsets, while the other 22 are experiencing various repair difficulties," said Kuswardoyo.
Operational Feasibility Questioned
Chairman of the Rail Transportation Department of the Indonesian Transportation Society (MTI), Aditya Dwi Laksana, strongly questioned the operational feasibility of LRT Jabodebek. He stated that wheel wear issues should have been identified before the commercial operational phase. "This shouldn't have happened. Evaluation should have been done more carefully before the full operation of LRT. Fleet limitations and decreased travel frequency should not be obstacles," expressed Aditya.
Public Feels Disadvantaged
The impact of wheel wear and other technical constraints has left several members of the public feeling disadvantaged, especially regarding the delays in using LRT Jabodebek. Transportation observer Djoko Setijowarno believes that the main problem is not just in management but in the lack of investment in supporting infrastructure. "This issue is PT INKA's task to improve the quality of its supporting infrastructure," commented Djoko Setijowarno.
Demand for Ticket Price Reduction
Director General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation, Risal Wasal, revealed that an evaluation is underway, serving as a basis for improving services and safety. "We understand the concerns of the public, but the tariff reduction must be based on the comprehensive evaluation we are conducting. We are committed to continuously improving the quality of LRT Jabodebek services," emphasized Risal.
The public, feeling disturbed by LRT Jabodebek's service, has demanded a reduction in ticket prices to Rp5,000 for all routes. However, the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) rejected this request.
Assistance from LRT Jakarta
PT LRT Jakarta intervened by providing assistance to address the wheel wear issues of LRT Jabodebek. This assistance includes the provision of wheel lathe machines in response to the Ministry of Transportation's request. "We realize the importance of supporting each other in this industry. By providing technical assistance, we hope to help LRT Jabodebek overcome its operational challenges," stated a representative from PT LRT Jakarta.
Power Outage Again
Then, another technical disturbance incident occurred when LRT Jabodebek experienced a power outage, causing a 20-minute travel interruption. LRT Jabodebek Public Relations Manager, Kuswardoyo, explained that the disturbance was caused by a disruption in the electrical current to the train. "This morning, there was a disturbance due to the disruption of the electrical current to the train. This is a technical challenge we are facing, and we are working hard to ensure service stability," said Kuswardoyo.
Roof Leak Drama
An unexpected problem arose when the roof of the connecting building at Cawang LRT Jabodebek station leaked due to heavy rain on Saturday night, November 4, 2023. Information circulating indicates that rainwater directly descended to the floor, creating puddles in the station area. "This broken roof connects the station with the BNN building, TJ stop, and the state-owned enterprise office across the toll road. We are aware of its impact on passengers and are conducting an investigation to ensure the safety of each station area," clarified Kuswardoyo.
