OJK Encourages Young Generation to Utilize Capital Market for Future Investments

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) continues to enhance awareness and participation among young people in the capital market as a means of investment and long-term financial planning. Through various educational and outreach programs, OJK aims to improve financial literacy among the younger generation, enabling them to better understand both the opportunities and risks of investing.

Young Generation Dominates the Capital Market

The participation of young investors in Indonesia’s capital market has been growing rapidly. As of December 2024, the number of investors with a Single Investor Identification (SID) reached 14.81 million, with more than 79% of them being individuals under the age of 40. This data highlights the dominance of Generation Z and millennials in the national investment ecosystem.

OJK’s Educational and Outreach Initiatives

To enhance young people’s understanding of the capital market, OJK has organized various educational programs. One of these initiatives is the Integrated Capital Market Education Outreach (SEPMT) 2025, held in Padang from February 19-21, 2025. This program includes training for academics, funding outreach through the capital market for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and a public lecture at Andalas University titled "Enhancing Gen Z's Knowledge of the Capital Market."

Additionally, on February 14, 2025, OJK conducted a public lecture at Palangkaraya University, focusing on digital financial literacy and understanding digital financial assets, including cryptocurrencies. The event attracted over 1,000 participants, including students and university scholars.

Enhancing Financial Literacy and Inclusion

To improve young people’s investment knowledge, OJK emphasizes the importance of adequate financial literacy before making investment decisions. The Chief Executive of Capital Market Supervision, Derivative Finance, and Carbon Exchange at OJK, Inarno Djajadi, urged students to thoroughly understand the characteristics of financial products and services while being cautious of investment offers that lack clear legal legitimacy.

The rapid growth of young investors in the capital market reflects significant potential for the national economy. Through various educational and outreach programs, OJK remains committed to continuously improving financial literacy among the younger generation, enabling them to wisely utilize the capital market and maximize available investment opportunities.
