DIGIVESTASI - President Prabowo's Visit to China Secures Strategic Agreements in Economic and Political Sectors, President Prabowo Subianto’s three-day visit to China from November 8-10, 2024, resulted in several important agreements, particularly in the areas of economics, business, and foreign policy. During his time in China, Prabowo met with high-level leaders, including President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and the Chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People's Congress, Zhao Leji. Additionally, he attended the Indonesia-China Business Forum, which brought together business leaders from both nations.
1. Investment Worth IDR 157 Trillion to Indonesia
Prabowo’s visit successfully secured investments totaling US$10.07 billion, or approximately IDR 157.64 trillion, for Indonesia. This agreement was achieved through collaborations between entrepreneurs from both countries, focusing on sectors such as food security, energy, commodity downstreaming, and advancements in science and technology.
2. Seven Indonesia-China Bilateral Agreements
During official meetings in Beijing, Indonesia and China signed seven bilateral agreements witnessed by both Prabowo and Xi Jinping. These agreements include the export of fresh coconuts, promotion of sustainable marine fisheries, and cooperation in green minerals, water resources, and conformity assessments.
3. China’s Support for Indonesia’s Free Nutritious Meal Program
In addition to investment agreements, the Chinese government also approved funding for Indonesia's free nutritious meal program, as part of the "Food Supplementation and School Feeding Programme." This initiative aims to improve nutrition among students, with China providing full support based on their own successful implementation of a similar program for their population.
4. Maritime Cooperation for Fishermen’s Welfare
In another bilateral agreement, Indonesia and China agreed to collaborate in the maritime sector. This was formalized through the signing of technical work guidelines by Indonesia’s Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, and China’s Minister of Agriculture, Han Jun. The guidelines cover cooperation in capture fisheries, fish processing, and fisheries infrastructure development, with the primary goal of improving the welfare of Indonesian fishermen and advancing the national fisheries sector.
5. Indonesia’s Foreign Policy Position Reaffirmed
During the visit, Prabowo reaffirmed that Indonesia's cooperation with China does not alter its principle of an independent and active foreign policy. He emphasized that Indonesia remains committed to non-alignment and maintaining good relations with all major global powers. Prabowo further stated that the collaboration with China serves as an example that global cooperation, not confrontation, is the best path toward regional peace and stability.
"The collaboration between these two nations will be a crucial factor in stabilizing and enhancing cooperation in the region," Prabowo said, emphasizing his belief that synergy in the modern era is key to achieving global peace.
