IDX Suspends 3 Surging Stocks as WSKT Trading Halt Continues Over Rp722 Billion Bond

Four Indonesian ticker symbols were under trading restrictions at the end of this week, but they should not be treated as one story.

The Indonesia Stock Exchange suspended SMLE, ASLI and WAPO from the first session on September 25 following significant cumulative share-price increases.

The exchange described the action as a cooling-down measure intended to give investors time to review available information before making trading decisions.

WSKT, however, is fundamentally different.

Waskita Karya has already been suspended for years, and its latest suspension continuation relates to an unpaid Rp722 billion bond principal rather than a sudden share-price rally.

Three New Volatility Suspensions

IDX's September 24 notice placed SMLE, ASLI and WAPO under temporary suspension in the Regular and Cash Markets effective September 25.

The exchange cited significant cumulative price increases.

Trading will remain halted until a further exchange announcement.

This type of suspension is designed as a market-supervision tool.

It does not itself establish manipulation, misconduct or any violation by the issuer.

WAPO Had Jumped Nearly 25%

WAPO was one of the strongest movers immediately before the halt.

The stock closed September 24 at Rp352, up 24.82% for the session and ranking among the day's top gainers.

That sharp one-day move came on top of a substantial cumulative advance.

IDX then included WAPO among the stocks subject to cooling-down suspension.

ASLI Rose 17.39%

ASLI also surged on September 24.

The shares closed at Rp486, gaining 17.39% in a single session.

The move coincided with a recently disclosed ownership transaction.

Controlling shareholder PT Wahana Konstruksi Mandiri had purchased 62.5 million ASLI shares at Rp325 each on September 21, raising its stake from 51% to 52%.

The transaction was worth about Rp20.31 billion.

The disclosure provides relevant context, but it does not prove that the shareholder purchase alone caused the market rally.

IDX's stated basis for the suspension was the stock's significant cumulative price increase.

SMLE Had Also Been Highly Volatile

SMLE had recorded several strong sessions immediately before its suspension.

It jumped 15.65% on September 23, after earlier gains during the month.

Some market-data providers record a September 24 close of Rp282, up 6.02%, although secondary price databases show inconsistent snapshots for that session.

For that reason, the most reliable editorial takeaway is IDX's own stated rationale: a significant cumulative increase rather than one specific closing-price figure.

WSKT Is Not a New Volatility Suspension

Waskita Karya is the key exception.

IDX's official list of companies suspended for more than six months shows WSKT's suspension beginning on May 8, 2023.

Waskita's own disclosures also describe the 2023 trading halt as being related to failures involving bond coupon or principal payments during its debt-restructuring process.

That means it would be inaccurate to say WSKT was newly suspended on September 25 because its stock price moved sharply.

Rp202 Is a Stale Suspended Price

Some market screens still display WSKT at Rp202.

That figure should not be described as the stock's September 24 closing price.

The company has not been trading normally for years.

Waskita's own investor-relations page has displayed no trading volume while showing a Rp202–Rp202 range, consistent with the long-running suspension.

Rp202 is therefore better understood as a historical last-traded reference rather than a fresh market price.

The New WSKT Issue Is a Rp722 Billion Bond

Waskita was due to repay principal on its 2021 Bond III Series A on September 24.

The outstanding principal was approximately Rp722 billion.

The company said it was unable to make the principal payment when due.

IDX subsequently issued Announcement No. Peng-SPT-00017/BEI.PP3/09-2026, continuing WSKT's suspension across all markets.

The exchange said the delayed bond repayment indicated issues related to the company's going concern.

The Dates Are Different Too

The timing also separates WSKT from the other three stocks.

WSKT's latest continuation applied from the first Periodic Call Auction session on September 24.

SMLE, ASLI and WAPO were newly suspended from the first session on September 25.

Combining all four as one September 25 cooling-down action would therefore be factually misleading.

What Cooling Down Actually Means

For SMLE, ASLI and WAPO, cooling down temporarily removes the ability to trade the shares in the Regular and Cash Markets.

IDX says the objective is to give investors enough time to assess available information before making decisions.

The exchange does not guarantee a fixed suspension period.

Trading resumes only after a subsequent IDX announcement.

Suspension Does Not Automatically Mean Wrongdoing

A trading halt should be interpreted according to its stated cause.

A price-volatility suspension does not automatically prove that a company or investor manipulated the market.

Likewise, suspension being lifted later does not mean a stock has suddenly become safe or undervalued.

The status simply reflects an exchange supervisory decision.

Investors still need to examine disclosures, liquidity, ownership changes and company fundamentals.

WSKT Carries a Different Type of Risk

For WSKT, the issues are more directly connected to creditworthiness and financial obligations.

The company has been restructuring debt and communicating with IDX about measures intended to resolve the conditions that caused its long-running suspension.

The new delay involving Rp722 billion of bond principal shows that repayment and restructuring risks remain material.

Investors therefore need to distinguish WSKT's fundamental credit problem from the short-term price-volatility concerns surrounding the other three stocks.

Bottom Line

IDX placed three newly volatile stocks—SMLE, ASLI and WAPO—under suspension from September 25 because of significant cumulative price increases.

WAPO had surged 24.82% to Rp352 the previous day, while ASLI rose 17.39% to Rp486.

WSKT belongs in a different category.

Its shares have been suspended since May 2023, and IDX continued the halt on September 24 after Waskita delayed repayment of Rp722 billion in bond principal.

The accurate takeaway is therefore not that four stocks were suddenly suspended because their prices went wild.

It is that three stocks received new volatility-related cooling-down suspensions, while WSKT's years-long halt continued because of debt and going-concern concerns.
