DIGIVESTASI - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia emphasized that the government will continue its plan to increase its stake in PT Freeport Indonesia by 10%. Currently, Indonesia already controls 51% of Freeport's shares, and the plan is to increase it to 61%.

Bahlil targets the additional share acquisition process to be completed by early next year, in accordance with ongoing communication with Freeport.

“God willing, early next year. It depends on the communication with Freeport,” Bahlil said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, Thursday (31/10/2024).

When asked further about whether the process could be completed in the first quarter of 2025, Bahlil responded jokingly, “We'll see, this question is like a lecturer during a dissertation trial.”

Broadly speaking, Bahlil explained that the continuation of the Freeport share divestment process is still awaiting finalization from Freeport.

He also mentioned the fire incident at Freeport's smelter in Gresik, East Java, which makes the company currently focus on solving problems at the smelter facility.

“Currently, we are waiting for finalization from Freeport. Yesterday there was an incident at the Freeport smelter, there was a fire in the sulfuric acid section, so maybe after their team solves the problem, we can continue the conversation,” Bahlil said.
