This followed reports that Apple is considering licensing Google's Gemini AI technology to develop AI in its next iPhone series. Apple shares also edged up, closing at $173.72, up less than 1%, as quoted by CNBC International, Tuesday (March 19, 2024).
Gemini is Google's suite of AI tools that offers everything from chatbots to coding assistants.
According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple is in talks with Google about using Gemini AI as the AI backbone of the iPhone. This information comes from an inside source familiar with the plan.
Apple and Google are reportedly in talks. Gemini will be the cornerstone of new feature development for the iPhone 16 software released later this year. For your information, Apple will announce iOS 18 as its latest software at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). iOS 18 is expected to bring significant improvements, especially in the field of AI. Apple CEO Tim Cook previously said his company is investing heavily in AI development.
"We look forward to sharing our big plans for AI with you later this year. We believe this technology will change the future," he said at the recent annual general meeting of shareholders.
