DIGIVESTASI - Motorcycle sales are expected to decline in early 2024 compared to the same period last year or year-on-year. Based on data from the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI), domestic motorcycle sales in January 2024 reached 592,658 units, down 3.69% compared to January 2023.
AISI Commercial Director Sigit Kumara said domestic two-wheeler sales are still relatively strong and this year's target is on track to reach 6.5 million units. "Sales at the beginning of this year are still on track, right?" "I hope the election can be held safely and smoothly," he told Bisnis, Sunday (November 2, 2024).
Scooters and matic bikes still accounted for 90.55% of domestic motorcycle sales in January 2024. Next, the underbone, moped, and sport segments accounted for 4.87% and 4.58% respectively. Export performance was not much different from the slump in domestic sales. The number of export registrations in January 2024 reached 34,991 units, down 10.89% from 39,269 units in January 2023.
The dominance of motorcycles is estimated to account for 42.56% of total exports in January 2024. Followed by lower body types at 29.87% and sports types at 27.57%. AISI has set a domestic sales target of 6.5 million units this year, in line with Indonesia's economic growth (which is likely to remain consistent at 5%).
In this case, two-wheeler sales are expected to increase due to the possibility of lower interest rates. "I see the possibility of a reduction in lending rates and economic growth of 5%, of course if the political situation remains favorable," he said, Monday (1/8/2024).
