DIGIVESTASI - Online bookies must be vigilant, because the Financial Services Authority (OJK) will impose strict sanctions to make it difficult for the perpetrators to live a normal life. OJK emphasized that it will tighten the action against online gambling transactions in the banking sector. This time, not only by blocking accounts, but also by blacklisting online bookies.

"As online bookies, there will be consequences in the form of blacklisting. They will not be able to open an account at the bank anymore. I think this will be a reminder for potential customers," said OJK Banking Supervisor Executive Head Dian Ediana Rae, quoted on Tuesday (9/7/2024).

Dian ensured that if the dealers are removed from the financial system in Indonesia, they will not be able to live a normal life.

As of June 2024, OJK has asked banks to block more than 7,000 accounts identified as being related to online gambling.

"In every letter we send, we also ask banks to do profiling. The profiling results are sent to SIGAP. Then we exchange them between banks, so that all banks know who has been involved in online gambling," he explained.

Regarding the rampant activity of buying and selling accounts by online bookies to continue transacting, Dian believes that this is due to the lack of customer literacy regarding their rights and obligations.
 

"The problem of buying and selling accounts is rather difficult to detect at the beginning because we do not know who created and then sold the account. Education must be emphasized more," he concluded.
