DIGIVESTASI - Salaries for civil servants (PNS), TNI / Polri, and pensioners will increase by 8% starting January 1, 2024. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) revealed that the salary increase for all ranks of civil servants in Bang (ASN) was related to domestic inflation. Plt. Head of BPS Amalia Adinggar during a press conference, Tuesday, February 1, 2024.
Amalia explained, the inflation calculation method used by BPS refers to international guidelines which aim to track inflation fluctuations in consumer product and service prices. The food price fluctuation component accounts for around 16.5% of the CPI component with 101 products. Food prices such as shallots, garlic, and rice are included in this component.
Meanwhile, the price components that are regulated or managed by the government are 23 items and core inflation is 711 items. Later, if traders adjust their selling prices higher and see the ability of the community to buy their products, then BPS will only record the inflation that occurs.
Therefore, the increase in civil servant salaries does not necessarily have a direct impact on inflation because it depends on the decisions of economic actors. Amalia concluded: "If a producer imposes a price increase on a marketed product and the product is then purchased by consumers, the price at the consumer level will be recognized through inflation. In December 2023, inflation was recorded at 2.61% (YoY/YoY) and was the lowest in the last 20 years.
While on a monthly basis or monthly (mtm), inflation was recorded at 0.41%. This figure is higher than last month, but lower than the December 2021 and 2022 inflation rates. Although the government has not yet issued a Government Regulation (PP) or Presidential Regulation (Perpres) regarding this matter, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati confirmed that the policy will take effect on January 1, 2024. "ASN salaries in 2024 will still be paid. This increase is in accordance with what the Chairman of the PP said: "It is being finalized, but don't worry, in January we will still pay in full," she said at a press conference.
