Indonesia continues to rely heavily on imports for military equipment. From January to July 2025, the country imported weapons, ammunition, and their components worth a total of US$ 65 million, equivalent to IDR 1.06 trillion (at an exchange rate of IDR 16,386 per US dollar).
According to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) released on Wednesday (September 3, 2025), these imports were categorized into three groups. The first was military weapons other than revolvers and pistols, valued at US$ 46.83 million or IDR 767.35 billion, with a total volume of 99,883 kilograms (kg).
A closer breakdown shows that the United Arab Emirates was the largest supplier, contributing US$ 25.84 million. The next biggest exporters were the United States (US) at US$ 11.58 million, Italy at US$ 7.36 million, and other countries at US$ 2 million.
In addition, Indonesia also imported bombs, grenades, torpedoes, mines, missiles, and other types of war ammunition worth US$ 17.84 million or around IDR 292.32 billion as of July 2025. The volume of imports for this category reached 25,326 kg.
France was the top supplier for these items with US$ 12.66 million, followed by the Czech Republic with US$ 2.52 million, South Korea with US$ 1.67 million, and other countries totaling US$ 979,822.
Meanwhile, imports in the category of other ammunition and projectiles, including bullets, were relatively smaller, recorded at US$ 358,677 with a volume of 16,423 kg. The United States dominated this supply with US$ 255,000, followed by South Korea and Japan.
