The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that Indonesia's import value in October 2023 reached 18.67 billion US dollars. Pudji Ismartini, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, stated that this figure increased by 7.68 percent compared to September 2023.
"The monthly increase in import value is driven by raw materials, primarily machinery or mechanical equipment. The main contributors are capital goods, particularly machinery or electrical equipment, and consumer goods, especially cereals," said Pudji during a press conference on Wednesday (11/15/2023).
On an annual basis, Pudji mentioned that Indonesia's import value in October 2023 experienced a decline. Pudji stated that on a monthly basis, Indonesia's import value during that period decreased by 2.42 percent. Pudji detailed that oil and gas imports in October 2023 amounted to 3.21 billion US dollars.
"This figure decreased by 3.66 percent compared to September 2023 and decreased by 4.68 percent compared to October 2022," explained Pudji.
Meanwhile, Pudji mentioned that non-oil and gas imports in October 2023 reached 15.46 billion US dollars. This figure increased by 10.37 percent compared to September 2023 and decreased by 1.94 percent compared to October 2022.
BPS recorded the largest increase in the import of non-oil and gas commodities in October 2023 compared to September 2023 was machinery or electrical equipment and its parts, amounting to 386.8 million US dollars or 21.06 percent. The largest decrease was recorded in iron and steel, amounting to 47.4 million US dollars or 5.30 percent.
