The CEO of the Investment Management Agency (BPI) Daya Anagata Nusantara (Danantara), Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, confirmed that the Indonesian government will acquire a 12% stake in PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI). He emphasized that the acquisition will not require state funds.

“My target is actually 12%,” he said at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (September 16, 2025).

“Free of charge, isn’t that great?” Rosan added.

As for the acquisition timeline, Rosan explained that they are waiting for directions from President Prabowo Subianto. Nevertheless, he stressed that the acquisition figure is nearly finalized.

“It’s almost final. The target is in the near future, and we’re now waiting for instructions from the President,” he asserted.

Previously, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, had also shared an update regarding the government’s plan to increase its ownership in PT Freeport Indonesia. According to him, the government’s stake could rise by more than 10%.

Initially, the government had agreed to an additional 10% ownership. However, as negotiations progressed, Bahlil revealed that there was potential for an increase beyond that figure. At present, the government already holds 51% of Freeport’s shares.

“At first, we agreed on adding 10% to Freeport’s shares. But as negotiations developed, hopefully, it could be more than that,” Bahlil said at the Presidential Palace Complex on Monday (September 15, 2025).

Furthermore, he explained that he was asked to accelerate communications regarding Freeport’s share divestment to ensure the company can continue its operations in Indonesia.

“I was instructed to expedite the communications, and if the deal is finalized, hopefully Freeport will consider extending its contract in Indonesia,” Bahlil elaborated.
