Indonesia’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, stated that private fuel distributors in the country can collaborate with PT Pertamina (Persero) to secure fuel supplies. His remarks came after reports of gasoline shortages at several gas stations, including Shell and BP-AKR.
Bahlil explained that the government had already increased the fuel import quota by 10% for 2025, particularly for private companies. He also assured that national fuel reserves remain sufficient.
Therefore, private companies are encouraged to request additional fuel supplies from Pertamina through a business-to-business (B to B) mechanism.
“But if there are requests for more supply, I emphasize that our national stock is still available. So, collaboration under a B to B scheme with national reserves can be carried out,” Bahlil said at the Presidential Palace after a limited cabinet meeting on Wednesday (September 17, 2025).
Furthermore, Bahlil stressed that with the 10% additional import quota this year, there should be no fuel shortages domestically. “In 2024, the import quota was already given at 100%, and this year it was raised by another 10%. So, it exceeds last year’s target. There should be no scarcity,” he affirmed.
Meanwhile, Pertamina Patra Niaga’s Corporate Secretary, Roberth Marchelino Verieza, stated that the company continues to comply with government directives.
“As a business entity, Pertamina is committed to delivering the best services to the public, including adhering to the regulations set by the government,” Roberth told CNBC Indonesia on Wednesday (September 3, 2025).
