DIGIVESTASI - Apple has for the first time displaced Samsung from its position as the world's best-selling mobile phone brand. The Korean giant dropped to second place, selling "only" 226.6 million smartphones per year, with a market share of 19.4%. This number is down 13.6% compared to the same period last year.

Apple's success in getting rid of Samsung is surprising because last year Apple continued to face competitive pressure in its largest market, China. The rise of Huawei and other local companies has slowed iPhone sales in the Xi Jinping-led country. 

According to a Reuters report, in the first week of 2024, iPhone sales in China decreased by 30% compared to the same period last year. Apple shares fell last week as analysts predicted iPhone, iPad and Mac sales would not improve this year. 

In fact, Apple is offering deep discounts on iPhone 15 models in China to boost sales. Apple has never lowered the price of its new iPhones before.
