Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has revised the budget allocation for teachers, lecturers, and educational staff salaries in the 2026 Draft State Budget (RAPBN). In her presentation before the House of Representatives’ Budget Committee (Banggar) on Thursday (August 21, 2025), she stated that the welfare budget for educators has increased to IDR 274.7 trillion, compared to the initial plan of IDR 178.7 trillion.

“The state budget allocation for salaries of teachers, lecturers, education staff, as well as for competency development and welfare, now stands at IDR 274.7 trillion,” Sri Mulyani told members of the committee.

This revision represents an increase of nearly IDR 100 trillion from the previous figure. In the earlier press conference on the 2026 Fiscal Note, Sri Mulyani had mentioned a total allocation of only IDR 178.7 trillion.

Upon closer examination, changes can be seen in the distribution of Professional Allowances (TPG) for regional civil servant (ASN) teachers, which rose from IDR 68.7 trillion to IDR 69 trillion for 1.6 million teachers. A more significant jump occurred in the allocation for civil servant (PNS) TPG, lecturer professional allowances (TPD) for PNS, and educators’ salaries, which increased from IDR 82.9 trillion to IDR 120.3 trillion.

Meanwhile, TPG for non-PNS teachers and TPD for non-PNS lecturers remained unchanged at IDR 19.2 trillion for 754,747 teachers and IDR 3.2 trillion for 80,325 lecturers, respectively. As of this report, the Directorate General of Budgeting has not yet provided an official comment on the revision.
