Tragic Accident: Gojek Driver Affan Kurniawan Killed After Being Run Over by Brimob Vehicle

OJOL DILINDAS POLISI - Driver ojol ditabrak dan dilindas oleh mobil rantis Brimob Polri di kawasan Pejompongan, Tanah Abang, Jakarta Pusat, Kamis (28/8/2025) malam.

PT Goto Gojek Tokopedia Tbk. (GOTO) confirmed that the man wearing an online motorcycle taxi (ojol) jacket who was killed after being run over by a Mobile Brigade (Brimob) tactical vehicle in Pejompongan was a Gojek driver-partner named Affan Kurniawan.


The company’s Director of Public Affairs & Communications stated that GOTO had conducted internal verification and investigation together with relevant parties.

 

“We confirm that Affan Kurniawan was a Gojek Driver-Partner. We express our deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the bereaved family, as well as to fellow Driver-Partners who share in this loss,” the statement read in a press release on Friday (August 29, 2025).

 

Ade further explained that GOTO had provided assistance in the form of ambulance services, autopsy, and medical examination procedures. The company is also committed to offering financial support to the victim’s family as a form of solidarity.

 

“We are committed to continuing to support the victim’s family and providing the best assistance possible while maintaining coordination with the authorities regarding the handling of this incident. We urge everyone to help keep the situation safe and conducive,” the statement added.

 

The incident, in which a Brimob tactical vehicle struck and ran over a Gojek rider, was captured on a resident’s camera and widely circulated on social media.

 

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has issued an apology for the event, which occurred while officers were dispersing a crowd after a protest at the parliament building.

 

Sigit emphasized that he had ordered his ranks to immediately take necessary action to address the incident.

 

“I deeply regret this incident and extend my sincerest apologies for what has happened,” Sigit said in a written statement on Thursday (August 28, 2025).
