Vehicle owners, whether motorcycles or cars, need to understand the upcoming changes in the requirements for renewing vehicle documents. Nationally, the process of paying vehicle taxes will be denied even if you have an original ID card (KTP), vehicle registration certificate (STNK), and vehicle registration certificate (BPKB) if you do not complete them with certain additional documents.
Until now, to pay vehicle taxes, in addition to having sufficient funds, you only needed to provide an original ID card (KTP), vehicle registration certificate (STNK), and vehicle registration certificate (BPKB). However, in the near future, there will be additional requirements in the form of documents for renewing the vehicle registration certificate every year and every five years.
The new requirements related to vehicle tax payment are closely related to documents confirming that your vehicle meets roadworthiness criteria. These documents or certificates will be related to emissions tests for each vehicle.
In response to these changes, Luckmi Purwandari, Director of Air Pollution Control at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), revealed, "Currently, we have developed an emissions test application (SI-UMI) and collaborated with the Environmental Agency (DLH) of DKI Jakarta to train 400 workshop technicians in the Jakarta, West Java, and Banten regions to support the implementation of these emissions tests."
The plan is that, once all the regulations are fully implemented, emissions testing will become mandatory throughout Indonesia. "When this is in effect, the administrative requirements for vehicle tax payment will include attaching the emission test results," added Luckmi in her written statement on September 7, 2023.
Asep Kuswanto, the Head of DLH DKI Jakarta, stated that the Jakarta Provincial Government has expanded the reach of emissions testing to nearly all workshops in Jakarta. He hopes that this step can be followed by other regions as an example in expanding emissions testing coverage.
