The value of Indonesians’ online purchases of goods and services rose 22.02% year on year in the third quarter of 2026. CNBC Indonesia reported the figure on November 5. It points to continued growth in digital shopping, but does not by itself show that every merchant became more profitable or describe household conditions across the country.
Over the same period, electronic-money transaction value increased 29.23% year on year. Imports of consumer goods rose 12.77%. The indicators describe different parts of the ecosystem: e-commerce captures purchases through online channels, e-money reflects use of digital payment instruments, and consumer-goods imports relate to overseas supply.
Digital transaction growth can widen choice and payment convenience, but aggregate figures do not show how gains are distributed across sectors, regions, or income groups. Higher transaction value is also not the same as more transactions or better business margins. The data offer context on economic activity, not a standalone measure of consumer wellbeing.
