DIGIVESTASI - Walt Disney's Pixar Animation Studios (DIS.N) is rumored to be laying off 300 employees. On Thursday (November 1) last week, a Reuters source said the layoffs were carried out because several factories had been completed and were now overworked.
He added that the number of layoffs has not yet been decided and will not happen in the near future.
According to him, Pixar's Emeryville studio in California, USA, is recruiting employees to create an online streaming series. However, after production was completed, the number of employees available exceeded the number needed. However, TechCrunch previously reported that Pixar will cut its workforce by 20% this year. Of the total 1,300 workers, 300 will be laid off.
Meanwhile, Disney did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment. Disney CEO Bob Iger said in 2022 that his company would reduce its own streaming content in an effort to reduce costs and would license shows and movies from third parties.
Last June, Pixar fired 75 employees, including two executives behind the box office disappointment Lightyear. This was the first significant layoff at the studio in a decade. Pixar is best known for movie franchises such as Toy Story, The Incredibles and Finding Nemo.
Disney acquired Pixar in 2006 to revive the fading Disney Animation.
