DIGIVESTASI - The head of BP2MI, Benny Rhamdani, stated that the biggest online gambling controller in Indonesia with the initials T has never been touched by the law. According to him, as long as Indonesia exists, this figure will never be touched by the law. 

“This person is someone who as long as this Republic stands may not be touched by the law,” Benny said in Medan, North Sumatra, Wednesday (24/7).

Benny explained that T's identity had been conveyed in a limited meeting at the State Palace, in the presence of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. Benny said that Jokowi and Sigit were surprised when they learned T's identity.

“You can ask the Coordinating Minister (Polhukam) at that time Mr. Mahfud MD. The President was surprised, the Chief of Police was surprised, the limited meeting was quite excited at that time,” he said.

Benny revealed that T's identity was known by BP2MI after investigating cases of illegal placement of Indonesian workers to Cambodia. Based on the investigation, Indonesian citizens in Cambodia are often employed in online gambling practices.

He also added that there was a change in the trend of the educational level of victims of illegal placement to Cambodia, with the majority of victims being high school graduates, undergraduate, and postgraduate.

“I stated in front of the President, the TNI Commander, and the National Police Chief, 'it is actually very easy to catch who is the actor behind the online gambling business in Cambodia and who is the actor behind online scaming',” Benny said.

“I only need to mention the initials T at the front, the second one I don't need to mention. I mentioned this in front of the President,” he added.

Therefore, Benny thinks it is time for the government to take firm action by arresting the dealers and masterminds behind illegal placement and online gambling.

“It's time for the state to take firm action, not only dragging brokers, accomplices but being able to legally touch the dealers,” he said.

Currently, the government has an Online Gambling Eradication Task Force (Satgas Judi Online) formed by Jokowi through Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 21 of 2024. Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto is the head of the task force.
