DIGIVESTASI - The economic losses caused by the forest fires in Los Angeles, California, are estimated to reach a very large figure. According to the latest data, these losses far exceed the total military aid provided by the United States for military operations in Gaza.

AccuWeather estimates the value of the damages and economic losses to range from USD135 billion to USD150 billion, equivalent to IDR 2.2 trillion to IDR 2.447 trillion.

Moody's Ratings, in a report published by Reuters, mentioned that although it will take weeks or even months to assess the extent of the insurable damage, the forest fires in Los Angeles are likely to be recorded as one of the most damaging in the state's history.

Meanwhile, a report from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute revealed that the United States has spent more than USD22 billion or around IDR 356.8 trillion to support Israel's military operations, including in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria since October 7, 2023.

Therefore, the economic losses the United States faces due to these forest fires are estimated to be six times greater than the military aid provided to Israel during the Gaza attacks.

Earlier, it was reported that Los Angeles was facing a major disaster due to the forest fires that had spread to residential areas. The fire, which started on Tuesday morning, has claimed the lives of 10 people and forced around 70,000 residents to evacuate.

The situation worsened with the presence of strong Santa Ana winds and dry vegetation, which accelerated the spread of the fire. This fire has been recorded as one of the most severe in Los Angeles' history, with more than 10,000 buildings burned down. The fire victims also face deep anxiety, as besides losing their homes and belongings, they fear that their insurance claims may not be fulfilled.
