Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo revealed that Indonesia’s digital economy and financial sector are expanding at an exceptionally rapid pace. In fact, BI claims that the country’s growth rate in this area is among the fastest in the world.

According to Perry, Bank Indonesia recorded 37 billion digital financial transactions per year. Out of this total, approximately Rp4,500 trillion worth of transactions took place within the e-commerce sector.

“The volume of Indonesia’s digital economic and financial transactions has reached 37 billion annually, with nearly Rp4,500 trillion generated from e-commerce activities,” Perry stated during the opening of the Indonesia Digital Economy and Finance Festival & Indonesia Fintech Summit and Expo 2025 held at the Jakarta International Convention Center on Thursday (October 30, 2025).

He expressed confidence that Indonesia’s digital financial ecosystem will continue to expand rapidly in the coming years. From 37 billion transactions currently, he projects the number will quadruple to 146.3 billion transactions by 2030.

“The transaction value, which currently stands at around Rp520 thousand trillion, can simply be multiplied by four to estimate its potential in 2030,” he explained.

With such strong growth momentum, Perry is convinced that Indonesia is on track to become the fastest-growing nation in terms of digital economy and payment systems in the world.
