E-wallet has become the most widely used payment method by Generation Z.

According to research conducted by Visa Indonesia, Generation Z in Indonesia prefers to use digital wallets or e-Wallets as their preferred method of digital payment. In the Consumer Payment Attitudes Study 2022, Visa found that 89 percent of Generation Z uses digital wallets or e-Wallets, followed by debit or credit cards at 76 percent and QR codes at 67 percent. The same research also showed that Generation Z is the group that uses non-cash payment methods the most, with 67 percent of respondents ready to leave cash behind.

 

The same research also showed that the use of cash decreased from 87 percent in 2021 to 84 percent in 2022. Meanwhile, in-app payments increased from 45 percent in 2021 to 80 percent in 2022, and QR payments increased from 50 percent in 2021 to 62 percent in 2022. Visa continues to develop digital payment technology, including contactless technology that allows for fast, easy, secure, efficient, and hygienic transaction and payment experiences.

 

Visa notes that the adoption of contactless card payments in more than 20 countries has reached over 90 percent of all Visa face-to-face transactions. In Indonesia, one in three consumers has used a contactless card, especially millennials and Gen X, as well as the affluent segment. Interest in using contactless cards from non-users reached 84 percent. Visa is committed to supporting Indonesia in the digitalization of payments and finance, so that Indonesia can soon become a cashless society in accordance with the direction of the Indonesian government.
