DIGIVESTASI - Online gambling is becoming increasingly popular in Indonesia. This is evident from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), which reported that the total revenue of online games throughout 2023 reached IDR 327 trillion.  Head of PPATK Ivan Yustiavandana revealed that the total money in circulation was recorded from 168 million transactions made by 3.29 million Indonesians. 

Ivan said at the PPATK 2023 work reflection event at his office, Jakarta, Friday (December 1, 2023): "The total cumulative receipt of funds related to online gaming only in 2023, PPATK has reached a rupiah value of Rp 327 trillion." ). 
PPATK revealed that transactions made by 3.29 million online game players including deposits to online game sites were worth a total of Rp 34.52 trillion. Cumulative revenue in 2023 related to online gambling accounts for 63% of the total revenue recorded by PPATK from 2017 to 2023 of IDR 517 trillion.

"This is based on the results of online games in previous years, which reached more than Rp 517 trillion. We can see how widespread online gaming is in our society," Ivan said. He hopes that this amount can be reduced by 2024. According to PPATK, the flow of money from online game players, Ivan said, revolves around the use of designated accounts or other accounts obtained through account lending activities and buying and selling of public accounts to be used by online gamblers as deposit accounts for online gambling funds. 

Some of the money from online games of chance is transferred abroad by the perpetrators through front companies. The total amount transferred abroad amounted to more than Rp 5.15 trillion. "And the total accounts that were temporarily suspended were 3,935 accounts, and the total account balance that we suspended was IDR 167.68 billion," said Ivan. 

If this outstanding money is used to build an international soccer stadium like JIS with a budget of IDR 4.5 billion, then IDR 327 trillion can build 72 world-class stadiums. If used to build a floating solar power plant like Cirata Reservoir, this amount could produce 192 floating solar power plants.
