Currently, the government and the DPR (People's Representative Council) are discussing changes to Law No. 22 of 2001 regarding Oil and Gas. This means that the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities or SKK Migas will be dissolved. This move has been welcomed by experts who hope that the government will replace SKK Migas with a Special Business Entity for Oil and Gas or BUK Migas. According to Pri Agung Rakhmanto, Founder and Advisor of Reforminer Institute, the revision of the Oil and Gas Law will be based on several main principles, including simplification of business licensing, taxation, and financial separation.

As reported by CNBC Indonesia, Pri stated that the BUK model is capable of remaining in sync with the old concept while moving towards renewal. Additionally, he added that BUK Migas could help business-to-business become more flexible and separate from the state's financial system. Dwi Soetjipto, the Head of SKK Migas, hopes that the establishment of BUK Migas will become an entity that can represent the country, especially in terms of energy resilience, negotiation, and making the oil and gas industry multifunctional. In addition to contributing to state revenue, it will also provide more benefits to supporting industries.

Like SKK Migas, BUK will also be under the President and report directly to the President. However, there is a proposal to make BUK an independent entity, especially in determining bidding or contract tenders.
