Google has taken a significant step in the world of artificial intelligence by merging the divisions of Google Brain and DeepMind to create Gemini, a conversational AI software recently introduced to users.
This move represents Google's serious effort to compete with ChatGPT, particularly as the release of the highly anticipated GPT-4 language model by OpenAI approaches.
This year, Google has increased its investments in the field of AI, striving to catch up with competitors like ChatGPT, which received backing from Microsoft and OpenAI last year.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, referred to the launch of Gemini as a pivotal moment in the company's journey. Gemini itself is a sophisticated AI device that incorporates a range of advanced language models applicable to various applications, including chatbots, text summarization, and the generation of unique content based on user preferences.
Pichai explained, "This AI technology has immense potential for use in various tasks, ranging from composing emails to creating song lyrics and generating articles."
Furthermore, Pichai revealed that AI technology has reached a level that allows for broader applications, such as assisting software engineers in writing code or creating unique images tailored to users' needs.
Google has granted developers access to an initial version of Gemini, while a more advanced version is still in development and is expected to have capabilities comparable to GPT-4.
In addition to competing with Microsoft's Bing Chat, Google also sees Gemini as a strong contender in this arena. This undoubtedly poses a significant challenge to OpenAI, especially since ChatGPT developers also have Dall-E, an image generator that can be integrated with ChatGPT in the future.
Google plans to offer Gemini to businesses through the Google Cloud Vertex AI service.
In August of last year, Google introduced AI features specifically targeted at users in India and Japan within its search engine. This service allows text or visual displays in response to commands, including summarization.
Furthermore, Google offers AI-based tools to business customers at a monthly cost of approximately $30 per user.
