iPhone users in Indonesia are still unable to use the latest QRIS feature introduced by Bank Indonesia, namely QRIS Tap, which enables payments without using the camera by simply tapping.
Bank Indonesia (BI) has asked iPhone users who cannot yet access QRIS Tap to remain patient. According to BI, Apple representatives, including those from its headquarters, have visited BI and expressed their intention to further examine the QRIS Tap feature.
“QRIS users on iPhone are asked to be patient because Apple has not yet opened its NFC feature. Apple Indonesia and the headquarters have come and will study the QRIS Tap feature to enable NFC access,” said BI Deputy Governor Fillianingsih Hendarta during the presentation of the Board of Governors Meeting (RDG) results on Thursday (February 19, 2026).
As is known, iPhone devices are already equipped with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, which supports contactless payment systems such as QRIS Tap. However, Apple’s current global policy has not fully opened NFC access for local applications in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, the adoption of QRIS Tap continues to expand. Fillianingsih noted that QRIS Tap services now cover transportation, hotels, and restaurants. In the hospitality sector, total transactions have reached 475,000, growing 7.9% month to month (mtm).
BI Governor Perry Warjiyo stated that the volume of digital payment transactions reached 4.79 billion transactions in January 2026, reflecting a 39.65% year-on-year (yoy) increase, supported by the broader acceptance of digital payments.
“The volume of transactions via mobile and internet applications grew by 10.00% (yoy) and 23.25% (yoy), respectively, including QRIS transactions, which continued to record strong growth of 131.47% (yoy),” Perry said during the RDG results presentation on Friday (February 19, 2026).
He emphasized that this positive performance was supported by an increase in both users and merchants. In terms of infrastructure, retail transactions processed through BI-FAST reached 455 million transactions, growing 34.41% (yoy), with a transaction value of Rp1,176 trillion in January 2026.
Meanwhile, high-value transactions processed through BI-RTGS totaled 0.86 million transactions, up 7.60% (yoy), with a value of Rp19,555 trillion in January 2026. In currency management, Currency in Circulation (UYD) increased by 12.41% (yoy) to Rp1,267 trillion in January 2026.
