The Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs, Teten Masduki, is set to meet with the TikTok CEO to discuss the closure of the social commerce platform.
It is planned that Minister Teten will meet with the TikTok CEO later this week. This is to discuss the fate of the TikTok Shop social commerce platform, which was recently blocked by the government.
"We have plans to meet with the TikTok CEO this week. I was busy yesterday," said Teten after the Rakornas LKPP 2023 event in Jakarta on Tuesday (11/7/2023).
Furthermore, Teten explained that the meeting will further discuss TikTok's proposal to open an online shopping platform separately from the social media platform.
According to Teten, the operation of social media platforms requires different permits compared to social commerce or sales platforms. Therefore, both business lines are subject to different regulations as stipulated by the government.
"We don't know yet; we'll listen first to TikTok Shop's reopening plan," Teten added.
Previously, TikTok Shop officially ceased its operations in Indonesia on October 4, 2023, at 5:00 PM local time.
However, there have been recent reports suggesting that TikTok Shop is planning to resume operations on November 10.
The cessation of operations coincided with the issuance of Minister of Trade Regulation (Permendag) No. 31 of 2023, which prohibited social commerce platforms from engaging in trading transactions.
