Palo Alto Networks, a global player in the cybersecurity sector, has released a report titled 'State of Cybersecurity in ASEAN 2023,' focusing on the cybersecurity landscape in Indonesia and the broader ASEAN region. This report is based on the findings of an online survey conducted in April 2023, involving 400 leaders and decision-makers in the IT field across five major industries in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand.

The survey results reveal that 93 percent of organizations in Indonesia express confidence in the cybersecurity measures they have in place. Furthermore, 53 percent of companies highlight that cybersecurity is a frequently discussed topic within their board of directors.

Palo Alto Networks also observes that 63 percent of organizations in Indonesia have increased their cybersecurity budget for the year 2023. Remarkably, 30 percent of these entities have raised their cybersecurity expenditure to half of their previous year's budget. This increase is largely attributed to the ongoing digitalization process, with 75 percent of companies allocating funds towards digitalization initiatives. This positions Indonesia as a leader in the Asia-Pacific region concerning budget allocation for digitalization.

According to Steven Scheurmann, Regional Vice President for ASEAN at Palo Alto Networks, the actions taken by these companies demonstrate their commitment to addressing the continually evolving cybersecurity threats. However, he emphasizes the need for proactive vigilance in the face of cyber threats, requiring active participation from all facets of an organization.

Additionally, the report reveals that 70 percent of organizations in Indonesia are considering the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into their cybersecurity strategies, making Indonesia a frontrunner in this aspect within the ASEAN region. The adoption of AI is complemented by Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), used in the creation of distributed financial systems, with nearly half of Indonesian organizations (47 percent) having already embraced this technology.
