Several technology companies are no longer interested in setting up manufacturing plants in China. This move is part of their strategy to avoid tariffs imposed by the United States (US) government and to mitigate the risks of geopolitical tensions.
Some industries have opted to exit China for these reasons. Various countries have emerged as new destinations where tech companies can continue production while reducing the impact of US tariffs.
One example is Logitech, a Swiss-American company. Logitech has relocated its manufacturing operations from China to several countries, including Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Mexico, and Taiwan — a neighbor of Indonesia.
Logitech CEO Hanneke Faber stated that the relocation aims to reduce the effects of US tariffs. Products such as keyboards and mice manufactured in China could face tariffs of up to 30% under President Donald Trump’s administration.
“We are now in a slightly better position than the threatened 30% tariff. We are on the right track,” Faber told Reuters.
She also clarified that the relocation would not lead to a surge in costs. In fact, Logitech increased its prices in the US market by 10% as a way to adjust to the new tariffs.
A similar trend is seen in the smartphone industry, with India becoming the latest preferred destination after several companies moved their production facilities out of China.
Apple, for instance, has started assembling certain iPhone 16 Pro models in India and reportedly aims to produce a quarter of its total iPhones there.
According to Canalys data, India has overtaken China as the largest smartphone exporter to the US. In the second quarter of 2025, India’s share reached 44% — up 13% from the previous year — far surpassing China’s 25% share.
Meanwhile, Chinese Bitcoin mining equipment manufacturers are now choosing the US for their new factories. Companies such as Bitmain, Canaan, and MicroBT are setting up assembly lines in the US to avoid the new 20% tariff imposed by Trump.
