DIGIVESTASI - Neuralink, Elon Musk's neurotechnology startup, successfully inserted artificial intelligence (AI)-based chips into human brains. Those tested have recovered well. "The first human received a Neuralink implant yesterday and is recovering well. It also received clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in May 2023 and trials began in September 2023.  

Elon Musk said the chip will allow a person to control a cell phone or other device with just thoughts.

Elon also said that the results of the dangerous experiment brought positive results.

According to Pitchbook data, by 2023, California-based Neuralink will have more than 400 employees and will receive funding of at least 363 million USD or around Rp 5.7 trillion. Neuralink's ambition is to improve human abilities, treat neurological disorders such as ALS and Parkinson's disease, and restore sight to people born blind.

But as quoted by Reuters, Neuralink was fined for violating US Department of Transportation regulations regarding the transportation of hazardous materials. Authorities also found packaging containing hazardous waste, including flammable liquid xylene. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, xylene can cause headaches, dizziness, confusion, loss of muscle coordination, and even death.
