Xiaomi's First Electric Car, Named SU7, Aims to Compete with Tesla Model 3

Xiaomi is set to launch its first electric car, named SU7. This collaboration is the result of a partnership with BAIC (Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co., Ltd.) and is expected to pose as a competitor to the Tesla Model 3.

 

According to a report from Carscoops on Friday, November 17, 2023, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released several images and technical data about Xiaomi's electric car SU7.

 

In terms of appearance, the SU7 features a design similar to the Porsche Taycan, with a low nose, slightly protruding front fenders, flat door handles, and a muscular-looking rear arch.

 

Based on MIIT data, it is mentioned that this electric car has a wheelbase of 3,000 mm, longer than the Tesla Model 3 with a wheelbase of 2,875 mm. The SU7 is available with wheel options of 19 inches and 20 inches, and it includes a LiDAR sensor on the front windshield for driving assistance features.

 

The SU7 will be available in three variants: SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max, with sales expected to start at the end of this year. Its powertrain uses a single motor configuration producing 295 HP, with a top speed of 210 km per hour.

 

Furthermore, there is an option for an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system generating 664 HP, thanks to the use of two electric motors, with a top speed of 265 km per hour. The SU7 is also rumored to be available with a 1.5-liter range-extender engine, although this has not been confirmed.

 

The SU7 is said to run on Xiaomi's proprietary operating system, HyperOS. This is a self-developed operating system that powers both smartphones and smart cars.
