DIGIVESTASI - Larry Fink, the CEO of BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager with $10.6 trillion in assets under management, now regards Bitcoin as "digital gold" and a legitimate financial instrument. Fink, who was previously skeptical of Bitcoin, now views this cryptocurrency as an important alternative in investment portfolios.
Fink's Shift in Perspective on Bitcoin
In a recent interview with CNBC, Fink revealed that he was once a proud skeptic. However, after studying Bitcoin further, his views changed drastically. "I was a skeptic. I was proud of being a skeptic," said Fink. "But I studied it, and I came to a different opinion. I believe Bitcoin is a legitimate financial instrument that allows you to get results that might not be correlated with other instruments."
Fink emphasized that Bitcoin can be a useful investment, especially when one is concerned about economic instability or countries with excessive deficits. According to him, Bitcoin provides individuals with greater financial control beyond their country's reach.
BlackRock and Bitcoin ETF
BlackRock has launched a Bitcoin ETF called the Ishares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), which has now become the best-performing Bitcoin ETF in the US. Fink stated that Bitcoin plays a significant role in investment portfolios and considers it "digital gold." This ETF gives investors the opportunity to invest in Bitcoin through a structured and regulated product.
In May, IBIT surpassed Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) as the largest Bitcoin investment fund in the world. Additionally, BlackRock has added shares of this Bitcoin ETF to several of their income-focused funds, demonstrating Bitcoin's potential to aid income-focused investors such as retirees.
Fink's statements about Bitcoin and several other positive developments triggered a rise in Bitcoin's price. The decentralized asset experienced a price increase for four consecutive days, with the nine-day exponential moving average crossing back over the 200-day exponential moving average, reversing several weeks of negative price action.
Fink believes there is a real need for everyone to consider Bitcoin as an alternative in their portfolios. "If you want to hedge against hope, Bitcoin is not an instrument for hope unless you hope to make a lot of money from it," Fink said. "I see it as a vehicle where you express your financial intelligence in something that makes you more fearful of the world, more fearful of your existence."
