Indonesia’s economy is projected to grow 5.1% in 2027, according to a Bisnis.com report. Global growth is estimated at 3.4% for that year, up from a 3.1% estimate for 2026. Indonesia and the Philippines are projected to post 5.1% growth in Southeast Asia, behind Vietnam.

A high growth forecast alone does not guarantee investment inflows or attractive returns. Bambang Brodjonegoro, dean and CEO of the Asian Development Bank Institute, said investors also weigh market demand, supplier depth, reliable power and logistics, certainty around permits, and workforce skills.

Domestic risks include changes in the cost of living, inflation, and rupiah movements that may affect household purchasing power and consumer sentiment. Externally, the outlook is exposed to slower global growth, US policy, trade disputes, public debt, energy and commodity prices, and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, including developments around the Strait of Hormuz.

Bambang said artificial intelligence could become a new source of growth. Yung Ryul Ko, president director of Hana Bank, pointed to major economies’ interest-rate direction, Indonesian market conditions, currency volatility, and geopolitical risks as factors shaping the domestic and global economy.

For businesses and investors, the report’s central point is that a macroeconomic forecast should be considered alongside the conditions that determine whether investment is viable and productive. Demand, suppliers, infrastructure, regulatory certainty, and workforce capabilities can influence how effectively a country turns economic growth into business opportunities.
