The government has confirmed that social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has paid an administrative fine of nearly Rp80 million. The penalty was imposed due to delays in fulfilling its obligation to moderate pornographic content.

The Director General of Digital Space Supervision at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi), Alexander Sabar, stated that the fine payment was received on December 12, 2025. This followed the issuance of a third warning letter by the government and subsequent follow-up communications with the platform.

After further discussions, X provided confirmation via email and appointed an official representative to settle the administrative fine in accordance with applicable regulations.

Kemkomdigi regarded this action by the Elon Musk-owned platform as a sign of good faith and compliance with Indonesian regulations.
“This step reflects the compliance of Electronic System Operators with existing rules, aimed at maintaining Indonesia’s digital space as safe, healthy, and productive,” Alexander said in an official statement on Monday (December 15, 2025).

He also confirmed that the entire amount of the administrative fine had been processed through official channels and deposited directly into the state treasury managed by the Ministry of Finance, in line with prevailing laws and regulations.

Furthermore, Alexander emphasized that enforcing regulations on digital platforms—both domestic and global—is an ongoing government commitment to protecting the public, especially children and vulnerable groups, from exposure to harmful content.

Kemkomdigi also expressed appreciation for the cooperation of all parties involved in resolving the matter and urged all digital platforms to strengthen compliance with content moderation obligations while maintaining active and responsive communication with the government to help build a safe and accountable digital ecosystem.
