DIGIVESTASI - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan revealed that American businessman Elon Musk is considering an offer to build an electric vehicle battery factory in Indonesia.

“We have made an offer (to Elon Musk) about the possibility of building a factory to produce electric vehicle batteries, the forerunner of cathodes, here. And he will consider it,” Luhut explained as reported by Reuters, Monday (May 20, 2024). ).

Unfortunately, Elon Musk did not want to respond after Coordinating Minister Luhut Pandjaitan made the statement to reporters.

In addition, Luhut said, Jokowi also asked Elon Musk to consider investing in an AI center in the Southeast Asian country and SpaceX to build a launch pad on Biak Island, Papua Province, Indonesia. These are proposals that have been implemented by the government.

Meanwhile, Indonesia has also been trying for years to persuade Tesla to build an electric vehicle-related factory, as the government wants to develop the electric vehicle sector using the country's abundant nickel resources.

Previously, on Sunday (May 19, 2024), Elon Musk launched SpaceX's satellite internet service for the healthcare sector in Indonesia.  Starlink is now commercially available, but the government will first focus its services on the most remote and less developed areas.
