DIGIVESTASI - President Prabowo Subianto Announces Teacher Salary Increase at National Teachers' Day Celebration, President Prabowo Subianto announced a salary increase for teachers during the National Teachers' Day celebration at Velodrome Rawamangun, East Jakarta, on Thursday (November 28, 2024).

Prabowo stated that despite his administration being in office for only a month, steps to improve teacher welfare have already been implemented. He emphasized the government’s commitment to prioritizing educators' well-being.

The president explained that the welfare budget for teachers—whether civil servants (ASN), government employees with work agreements (PPPK), or non-ASN honorary teachers—has been increased. Civil servant teachers will receive an additional allowance equivalent to one month's base salary, while non-ASN teachers with certification or who have completed the professional teacher education (PPG) program will receive a professional allowance of IDR 2 million.

“The allowance for non-ASN teachers is now raised to IDR 2 million, while ASN teachers will receive an additional benefit equal to one month's base salary,” Prabowo said, met with enthusiastic applause from thousands of teachers in attendance.

Prabowo also noted that the number of certified teachers in 2025 will reach 1,932,666, or 64.4% of all teachers in Indonesia, an increase from 2024 with the addition of 620 certified teachers. With this policy, the welfare budget for ASN and non-ASN teachers in 2025 is projected to reach IDR 81.6 trillion, a rise of IDR 16.7 trillion compared to the previous year.

In addition to salary increases, the government will implement a professional teacher education (PPG) program for 806,486 ASN and non-ASN teachers in 2025. This program is intended for teachers who have completed a D4 or bachelor's degree.

The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Dikdasmen), Abdul Mu’ti, previously stated that the salary increase will apply to teachers in both public and private schools, provided they hold certification. Abdul explained that the IDR 2 million certification allowance for non-ASN teachers will supplement the salaries they receive from their respective schools.

This salary increase policy is scheduled to take effect in January 2025, though its implementation will depend on the disbursement of funds by the Ministry of Finance.
