Bank Indonesia Officially Launches QRIS Tap for Contactless Transactions

Bank Indonesia (BI) has officially launched its latest service, QRIS Tap or QRIS Contactless, on Friday (March 14, 2025). This service is designed for transactions in public transportation, public services, hospitals, and universities. Currently, 15 Payment Service Providers (PJP) have partnered with BI to support this new feature.

Head of BI’s Payment System Policy Department, Dicky Kartikoyono, explained that PJPs need to adjust their NFC (Near Field Communication) systems to enable QRIS Tap transactions.

"Currently, there are 1,081,543 NFC readers that must be adjusted to support QRIS Tap," said Dicky at a press conference on Friday (March 14, 2025).

He emphasized that the NFC system adjustment is done remotely, eliminating the need for manual updates on each device.

"No need to visit each terminal manually; the system update can be done over-the-air (OTA) to enable QRIS Tap," he added.

How to Use QRIS Tap NFC

To use QRIS Tap, follow these steps:

1. Open your mobile banking app or any payment app that supports NFC on your smartphone.
2. Select the QRIS menu and choose QRIS Tap.
3. Enter your transaction PIN.
4. Place your smartphone near the NFC terminal at the merchant.
5. The transaction details will appear on the screen.
6. Transaction completed!
