Rare Events: Total Solar Eclipse Together with a Great Explosion, BMKG Unveils the Impact in Indonesia

DIGIVESTASI - Ahead of Eid next week, several cosmic phenomena will occur simultaneously: a total solar eclipse and a solar explosion. "According to the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), if you observe the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, you will see an explosion on the Sun. The view is blocked by the Moon and goes off the edge." Here you can see how the edge of the solar plasma explodes, said the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Tuesday (February 4, 2024), on its official website.

BMKG explained that solar explosions are caused by internal activity in the center of the solar system. The level of activity fluctuates in an 11-year cycle, and reached its peak this year.  So far no one knows the cause of the phenomenon. However, BMKG wrote that it is possible because it involves the sun's magnetic force or nuclear reactions.

The impact of the explosion depends on its size. Magnetic or geomagnetic storms occur on the earth itself.
This happens because an explosion on the Sun's surface [corona] ejects a large plasma containing charged particles [solar wind], along with a high-speed magnetic field that spreads to the Earth's magnetosphere," explained BMKG.

"Coronal mass ejections are often called coronal mass ejections (CMEs). When a CME hits the magnetic field around the earth [magnetosphere], the ejection of charged particles will travel through the layers of the earth's magnetosphere towards the north and south poles. It will be deflected towards the lines," he added.

BMKG concluded that the impact of solar explosions related to the earth's magnetic storms is relatively harmless to Indonesia. The country is located at low latitudes where the earth's shield is strongest.

The impact of solar explosions in the form of earth magnetic storms is relatively harmless in Indonesia's low latitude region. This is because the strongest point (the earth's magnetosphere) that protects the earth from the impact of solar wind particle radiation is located at low latitudes, said BMKG. It said. On the other hand, the total solar eclipse in Indonesia cannot be seen directly. The April 8 phenomenon also occurred in Mexico, the United States (US), and Canada.

The GMT process begins at 22:42 WIB. This phenomenon will end the next day on April 9, 2024 at 03:52 WIB.
