DIGIVESTASI - The Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs revealed that the government would require a significant budget of IDR 139.4 trillion in 2025 to achieve food self-sufficiency by 2028–2029. Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, stated that this budget would be distributed across various agencies under his ministry's coordination, including the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan), the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), and other ministries and institutions.
"The food security budget in 2025 is quite large, reaching IDR 139.4 trillion, but it is spread across various agencies," Zulhas said after a coordination meeting at the Ministry of Trade office in Jakarta, Wednesday (October 30, 2024).
Zulhas added that part of the budget would be allocated to the Ministry of Public Works (PU) for dam and irrigation construction, while IDR 44 trillion from the total budget would be allocated to the state-owned enterprise, Pupuk Indonesia Holding Company. "The fertilizer budget of IDR 44 trillion is allocated to a state-owned company (SOE)," he explained.
Additionally, the food security budget will also be used for seed research at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), although Zulhas did not provide further details. He also mentioned a village fund allocation of IDR 16.25 trillion, which will support food security efforts towards achieving self-sufficiency by 2028–2029.
With such a large budget, Zulhas emphasized the importance of coordination to achieve the goal of food self-sufficiency. "There needs to be integration and clear direction so that the target of food self-sufficiency can be realized," he stated.
Furthermore, Zulhas also noted the existence of a food security budget through regional governments, amounting to nearly IDR 20 trillion. "There is also a budget through regional governments, totaling more than IDR 19 trillion, in addition to the village funds," he added.
The food affairs coordination meeting was also attended by representatives from the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu), the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), and the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag).
