Imports of goods from the United States (US) will now benefit from a zero import tariff when entering Indonesia. This new trade arrangement was agreed upon following discussions between US President Donald Trump and the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto.
On the other hand, Indonesian products exported to the US will now be subject to a 19 percent import tariff, a significant reduction from the 32 percent rate that had previously been imposed under Trump’s administration.
This agreement on the new tariff structure was officially announced by President Trump on Tuesday, July 15.
“They [Indonesia] will pay 19 percent, and we [the US] will pay nothing. We will gain full access to the Indonesian market,” Trump declared in his statement.
However, as of now, there is no further detail regarding the exact date when these new tariffs will take effect.
