DIGIVESTASI - Bulog’s Rice Reserves Reach 2 Million Tons, Largest in History, Deputy Minister of Agriculture (Wamentan) Sudaryono revealed that the rice reserves stored in Bulog warehouses have reached 2 million tons, making it one of the largest stockpiles in history.

"As of now, our rice stock in Bulog warehouses stands at 2 million tons, which I believe is among the largest ever recorded," Sudaryono stated during a press conference at Graha Mandiri, Central Jakarta, on Friday (January 31, 2025).

He further explained that Bulog has been instructed to absorb up to 3 million tons of rice equivalent at the Government Purchase Price (HPP) of Rp 6,500 per kilogram. Additionally, he confirmed that the distribution of food aid in the form of rice would be temporarily halted during the main harvest season to maintain stable grain prices for farmers.

"During the peak harvest season, there will be no distribution of rice aid. This measure is intended to keep grain prices stable at the farmer level. We aim to maintain prices at around Rp 6,500 per kilogram," he added.

Sudaryono also assured that domestic rice production would be sufficient to meet national demand throughout 2025. He highlighted that early 2025 has seen a 48% increase in rice production compared to the previous year.

"God willing, the supply will be adequate. If we look at the graphs for January, February, and March, compared to last year, there is a 48% increase. On average, the first three months of this year show a 50% rise," he explained.

Nevertheless, the government remains committed to stabilizing domestic rice production by ensuring that farmers remain motivated to plant. One approach is maintaining a profitable grain price for farmers.

"We must prevent prices from dropping too low, which could discourage farmers from planting. This is not just about optimism—we will continue to monitor the situation daily and weekly to ensure stability," Sudaryono emphasized.
