President Prabowo Subianto launched the National Financial Wellbeing Council (DNKK) on October 22, 2026. The government says the council will coordinate efforts to make financial access improve household outcomes, rather than simply increase the number of people using financial services.

In an official statement, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto cited 2026 survey figures: financial inclusion at 93.61% and financial literacy at 69.57%. The gap suggests that access to an account or financial product can be broader than people’s understanding of fees, risks, consumer rights, and how to use that product.

Why does the gap matter?

A person may have an account or use digital credit without understanding the effective interest rate, penalties, fraud risks, or the consequences of sharing personal data. Inclusion therefore cannot be measured by account ownership alone. Financial wellbeing also depends on decision-making skills, consumer protection, service quality, and whether products fit a household’s needs.

DNKK is expected to improve coordination across institutions. For consumers, meaningful outcomes would include accessible education, responsive complaint handling, and safe, affordable services. National survey figures do not mean every community has the same experience.

Practical steps include checking fees and repayment terms before borrowing, reading insurance benefits and exclusions, using official channels, and protecting one-time passwords. Financial literacy can reduce harmful decisions, but it cannot remove every risk.
